In Reception, children build on their Nursery experiences and develop greater independence, confidence and focus. Learning remains play-based but becomes more structured, supporting children to apply skills, deepen understanding and prepare for the transition to Key Stage 1.

Our Reception curriculum is carefully sequenced to prepare children for Year 1.
Our learning
Regular updates and photographs will celebrate learning such as:
- Applying phonics to read and write words and simple sentences
- Developing early mathematical reasoning and problem-solving
- Building independence in learning and self-care
- Working collaboratively and sustaining focus in tasks
How you can help at home
In Reception, children benefit from regular practice and increasing independence.
- Read with your child daily and practise phonics sounds and tricky words
- Encourage children to write their name and simple words
- Support independence with organising belongings and following routines
- Talk about learning and encourage curiosity and questioning
These skills support children’s readiness for Year 1.
Communication
Parents and carers will be invited to join us for a 'Day in the Life,' event in the Autumn Term to watch the teaching of phonics and spend time with your child/ren in their setting.
Parents Meeting will also take place in mid November.
