Our Approach
Our vision for Religious Education (R.E.) is that the curriculum should be as inclusive as it is inspiring!
At Furzedown, we believe in nurturing a well-rounded understanding of all religions, empowering our children to thrive in the vibrant, multicultural community that surrounds us. Our R.E. curriculum is designed to be dynamic, creative, and enjoyable—encouraging curiosity and fostering a love for learning about the world’s diverse belief systems.
Through engaging activities and thought-provoking discussions, we create opportunities for children to explore new ideas and reflect on their relevance to their own lives. Our approach celebrates each child’s cultural background while building bridges of understanding and empathy between peers. By deepening this awareness, we equip our students with the tools to challenge discrimination and champion inclusivity.
Every R.E. topic begins with an exciting ‘Big Question’ that sparks curiosity and serves as a foundation for each lesson. Children first share their own ideas and perspectives before exploring how followers of the studied religion or worldview respond to the question. As they journey through this process, they reflect on what they’ve learned and consider how it connects to their own lives. This thoughtful approach helps children shape their own beliefs and sense of identity while developing respect for others.
At Furzedown, we’re not just teaching R.E.—we’re cultivating compassionate, open-minded individuals ready to make a positive difference in the world.
Our Curriculum
Religious Education
This term, children have enjoyed exploring places of worship as part of their journey to deepen their understanding of different religions.
Year 1 had the wonderful opportunity to visit a local church, bringing their learning to life in a meaningful way. Meanwhile, Year 6 embarked on an inspiring faith walk, where they explored a local mosque, church, and Hindu temple. These visits allowed our pupils to learn about diverse faiths firsthand, fostering curiosity, respect, and a deeper connection to the rich multicultural world around them.
